Step into the enchantment of the holiday season at Wichita Park & Recreation’s Winter Wonderland — a magical evening of festive fun, sparkling lights, and unforgettable memories!
Celebrate the magic of the season at our annual Holiday Tree Lighting event! The evening begins at 6 PM as two children from the Miracle League of Wichita illuminate the park with the flip of a switch, bringing the dazzling holiday tree to life. From there, enjoy a night full of festive fun — cozy up by the fire pits to roast marshmallows and make s’mores, sip on rich hot cocoa while holiday music fills the air, and delight in sweet treats like cookies and candy canes. Capture the moment at our sparkling photo stations or spot the mischievous Grinch sneaking around for a playful photo op.
Make special memories with a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus, where you can take photos and share your wish list in person. Don’t forget to write your own letter to Santa and drop it in our magical mailbox — you might just receive a reply before Christmas! With laughter, lights, and the warmth of community, this festive celebration is the perfect way to welcome the holiday season in Wichita.
We're lighting up the stage with live entertainment throughout the evening! Our lineup includes:

ICT Soup is Wichita’s crowd-funded meal for artist projects. Here’s how it works: buy a ticket, share a simple meal with your neighbors, hear short pitches from local artists, and vote for the idea you want to see funded. The artist with the most votes takes home the evening’s proceeds to bring their project to life.
Launched in 2016 by artist Amanda Pfister, ICT Soup ran through 2021, building seed funding, visibility, and community connections for Wichita artists. ICT Soup is back as an official Harvester Arts program and will be held quarterly at Harvester Arts.
Want a say in which projects get funded? Come over for lunch! Your ticket buys you a meal and a vote. At the end of the meal, you’ll help decide which project moves forward.
Tickets available at the door.

Santa Claus has long served as a Christmas icon. By the 20th century, Santa Claus had become so popular that many diverse toy manufacturers interpreted his likeness for a variety of uses. Most of the plush toy Santa figures featured in this exhibit date from the 1950s and 60s. Some figures are made of molded plastic, cast metal, rubber, or papier-mache and date earlier in the 20th century.
This exhibit is part of the Museum’s “Windows on Collections,” – A frequently changing exhibit of artifacts from the Museum’s growing collection. Depending upon any given theme, this exhibit ranges from the topical to the bizarre.

Starting with the Wreath Festival and lasting through to the New Year, the Museum maintains its holiday decorating tradition with garlands and ornaments strewn over the stairs and through the second floor. There, in the West Gallery, visitors will find an exhibit of miniature Christmas trees, created by Wichita artist Sylvia Jackson. With incredible detail and creativity, these trees may serve as inspiration for any Christmas enthusiast.
This private collection of hand-decorated trees has been loaned to the Museum for the holiday season by the artist herself, Sylvia Jackson. Beginning in the 1970s, with the creation of two Victorian-style trees for her sons, the collection has grown as new trees have been designed and displayed during the annual Trees of Christmas event at the First Church of the Nazarene. May the many joys of the season be yours as you share the charm of this very personal collection.

The urge to create or possess a visual representation of a specific person – a portrait – is present throughout history. Portraits are created for many reasons: from sentimental to celebratory, for public or private viewing, as memorials, and as icons. .
Until the introduction of photography in the 1840s, portraits were rendered by artists in both two and three-dimensional mediums such as paintings and sculptures.
The Museum’s collection includes a variety of portraits, most of which depict local people. In this exhibition, we learn of portraiture and the people portrayed.
