We're celebrating 50 years of Heritage Square over 5 weeks in September!

Heritage Square is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Created in 1976 by the Junior League of Wichita to mark their own golden jubilee, the Square sits on the former site of the City's police station, which was demolished that same year as part of an urban renewal project.

Free Admission over the noon hour every Wednesday in September, and a special Saturday performance from 2-3 on the 19th! Enter Heritage Square through the Historical Museum and bring your lunch!

Art is not only for Art Museums. If a picture is worth a thousand words, it stands to reason that art can tell us a lot about the times and place where it was produced. Local history museums exist to explore time and place.

Derby Arts Council: Veteran Art Show at the Derby Public Library

The exhibit is set to run Aug. 31 through Oct. 22 and will collect works from veteran artists across all mediums (fiber arts, photography, painting, metalwork, etc.) to be shown in the Gathering Space Gallery and display case at the library entrance.

As part of the exhibit, there will be awards up for grabs, with Aug. 4 the deadline to submit entries. There will also be a public reception — and awards presentation — for the exhibit on Sept. 18.

The William Allen White Community Partnership is pleased to present "Bill Kurtis Talks Journalism" at the beautiful Emporia Granada Theatre, 807 Commercial St., on Sunday, Sept. 13, at 2:00 p.m. Enjoy this FREE program by the internationally acclaimed journalist, long-time host of NPR's "Wait, Wait... Don't Tell Me," Anchorman movie narrator, and author of "Whirlwind."

Books will be available for purchase at the event from Middle Ground Books, so you can get your copy autographed by Bill Kurtis himself!

Children ages 0-6 will develop literacy skills through active listening, singing, movement, and sharing a love of stories in a group setting. Please note this program will not take place on 10/12 at the Alford location.

Wichita State University Professor Emeritus Dr. Barbara Smith will give a talk about sleep health, including how it works, its health impacts, and tips on building healthy sleep habits.

Learn how to use Onshape, a 3D CAD (computer-aided design) program. This is a 3-part class that will teach you how to create shapes on a 2D plane, constrain them and use them to make 3D parts. Call (316) 261-8500 or visit wichitalibrary.org/events to register.

Drop in on the first Monday of each month from 6:00 to 7:00 PM for a fun craft you can make and take home! For preschoolers and a parent or caregiver. For ages 3-6.
