ShowerUp: Mobile Showers And Personal Care ShowerUp serves those experiencing homelessness and anyone in need by providing mobile showers, hygiene resources, and personal care. It’s our goal to Shower Grace, Hope, and Love with everyone.

Art is not only for Art Museums. If a picture is worth a thousand words, it stands to reason that art can tell us a lot about the times and place where it was produced. Local history museums exist to explore time and place.

Do you know about the infamous Old West gun fighter who spent part of his childhood in Wichita? Or the story of the millionaire who paid to build Wichita’s first public library building, even though he never visited our city? Do you know about the oldest commercial building in Wichita, built in 1874? Hear all of these stories, and much more, on our Downtown History and Architecture Tour!

This is an entirely outdoor walking tour, and it lasts about 1.5 to 2 hours - you will walk about 12 blocks. This tour starts on the Main Street sidewalk, in front of the Wichita Sedgwick County Historical Museum, at 204 S. Main Street.

You will receive an order confirmation by email and will be added to the reservation list upon the completion of your order. We do not mail out physical tickets.

Tour moves at a leisurely pace with short periods of standing at designated tour stops. Considerable walking, unpaved areas, uneven sidewalks, brick streets and cross traffic can be expected.

This tour is written and provided by the Docents and Frank Lloyd Wright's Allen House.

Derby Arts Council: Veteran Art Show at the Derby Public Library

The exhibit is set to run Aug. 31 through Oct. 22 and will collect works from veteran artists across all mediums (fiber arts, photography, painting, metalwork, etc.) to be shown in the Gathering Space Gallery and display case at the library entrance.

As part of the exhibit, there will be awards up for grabs, with Aug. 4 the deadline to submit entries. There will also be a public reception — and awards presentation — for the exhibit on Sept. 18.

Grant Writing 101 introduces beginners to grant writing. Learn how to research grants, prepare proposals, and start writing. Hear from a local grant writer and explore library resources. Call (316) 261-8500 or visit wichitalibrary.org/events to register.

Kick off Banned Books Week with this Third Place event. Learn about making zines, play board games with fellow creators, and celebrate free expression.

Sunday Fun Day on October 4, 2026, is a free, family friendly event that is great for all ages and features two hours of free food and entertainment in Naftzger park (601 E. Douglas), 5:30 pm until 7:30 pm. Talented local band, Lucky People, will provide music that is great to dance to or sit and enjoy. Lilo & Stitch character entertainers, face painters, and Puddles the Clown will dazzle the younger set. Free hamburgers and hots dogs, popcorn, DQ ice cream, and more are provided, plus door prizes and giveaways, outdoor games, and art by Get Ya Color On. A disaster preparedness trailer, fire truck, police cruiser and a booth by local charity, Simply Hygiene, sharing information and taking donations round out this great evening of fun! Bring your own chairs or a blanket if you'd like to kick back and relax to the music.

Children ages 0-6 will develop literacy skills through active listening, singing, movement, and sharing a love of stories in a group setting. Please note this program will not take place on 10/12 at the Alford location.

Final Day to Sign Up for the 2026-2027 Teens Through Time Program!

Join us for the 3rd year of this fun program at the Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum! Come together to learn about how a museum operates and plan your own teen night event at the Museum!

This group meets once a month starting in October, with an event organized by them in April! This is a great opportunity and résumé builder for students who need volunteer hours, want to learn more about museums, or are history enthusiasts.
