Barbara J. King is a contributor to the NPR blog 13.7: Cosmos & Culture. She is a Chancellor Professor of Anthropology at the College of William and Mary. With a long-standing research interest in primate behavior and human evolution, King has studied baboon foraging in Kenya and gorilla and bonobo communication at captive facilities in the United States.

Loren Amelunke (she/her pronouns) is the Summer 2024 intern with the Wichita Journalism Collaborative. She was previously an intern for the KMUW News Lab. She currently works as a reporter for The Sunflower, the student newspaper at Wichita State University. Amelunke is a student at Wichita State, majoring in psychology while additionally pursuing journalism.

Since 1996, Bonita has served as as Editor-in-Chief of The Community Voice newspaper. As the owner, she has guided the Wichita-based publication’s growth in reach across the state of Kansas and into the Kansas City metro area; and in a period of decreasing newspaper circulation, she increased the publications to one of the largest non-daily newspapers in Kansas. Bonita has always insisted on providing high-quality journalism focused on the interest and needs of the African-American readers in her distribution areas. Her commitment is to positively enhancing the lives of her her readers and their communities. In her spare time, Bonita is an avid tennis player and gardener.

Kathy Lefler serves as the project coordinator for the Wichita Journalism Collaborative, which is funded through a grant from the News and Information Fund at the Wichita Foundation.

Ainsley Smyth was formerly a summer news lab intern at KMUW. She also was previously an intern for the Wichita Journalism Collaborative.

Megan Bailey is a KMUW News Lab Intern. She is a senior in the Elliott School of Communication at Wichita State University. She’s majoring in Communication Studies, with a minor in Sign Language. She will graduate in May.
