The Journal, found online at klcjournal.com, is the nationally recognized magazine published by the Kansas Leadership Center in Wichita. The publication focuses on highlighting important civic leadership issues in Kansas and beyond through in-depth reporting, investigative journalism and innovative writing, graphic design, photography, multimedia and public discussions. The Journal is nonpartisan. It seeks to educate and inform readers about issues from multiple perspectives and it does not engage in advocacy.

Denise Neil, a Dodge City native and a KU graduate, started as a reporter at the Wichita Eagle in 1997. She took over the restaurant beat in 2000 and since then has built her popular column and Facebook page, Dining with Denise, where she keeps Eagle readers updated on all the happenings in the dining scene.

A native of Omaha, Nebraska, Sawyer Belair is a recent University of Nebraska-Lincoln graduate who found his calling in journalism after spending his first two years of college studying physics and mathematics. Since then, he’s worked as a reporter at the UNL student-run Daily Nebraskan, Norfolk (NE) Daily News and, most recently, the Lincoln Journal Star. Beyond his passion for weaving compelling data with human-centric storytelling, Sawyer is an avid enjoyer of science fiction, the outdoors and thinking way too hard about the nature of human existence.

Nour Longi is the 2024 KMUW Korva Coleman intern. She is from the Chicago suburbs and is currently a rising senior at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign majoring in journalism and minoring in political science and statistics. Since her freshman year, Nour has fostered a love for audio journalism through her work as a reporter and senior producer for the student newsroom at Illinois Public Media— central Illinois’ NPR affiliate.
