Volunteer Local Dining CommentatorDenise Neil, a Dodge City native and a KU graduate, started as a reporter at the Wichita Eagle in 1997. She took over the restaurant beat in 2000 and since then has built her popular column and Facebook page, Dining with Denise, where she keeps Eagle readers updated on all the happenings in the dining scene.
Denise is married to Wichita Eagle photographer Travis Heying and has two daughters: Alexis, 18, and Helen, 13. She loves to cook, cuddle with her pug, Walter, and listen to audio books.

The Sternberg Mansion, built in 1886 on North Waco, has sat in a dilapidated state for several years. In 2022, local remodeler Pepin Suter bought the home and has transformed it to much of its original glory. Suter, a recovering alcoholic and addict, will use the home as a sober living space that can house up to 14 people.
