Crowson: This Land Was Made For You and Me

seeger_banjo.jpeg

With apologies to Woody Guthrie who I think, under the circumstances, would understand…

This land is your land, this land is my land
From California to the New York Island
From the redwood forests to Gulf Stream waters
This land was made for you and me

The road ahead now, it won’t be easy
When winds blow bitter, when hate flows freely
But we can choose love and we can sing through the storm
This land was made for you and me

No gilded tower can be built too tall
No fear can construct too mighty a wall
To stop this eagle from sending forth its call
This land was made for you and me

From the Jewish temple to the church’s steeple
Mosque and cathedral, and non-worshiping people
Black, brown and yellow, red, white and shades in between
This land was made for you and me

No one can force us to join their hatred
And turn our backs on what we hold sacred
And when we’re long gone, others will sing Woody’s song
This land was made for you and me
