Short-term rentals that have not acquired a license or taken steps to get one could face criminal charges, city officials say.

The deadline for owner-occupied short-term rentals to register was March 12, but non-owner-occupied units have until September.

The regulations follow a 2021 shooting at an Airbnb in Crown Heights, where one person died and three were injured.

The proposed policies are still under consideration by Wichita’s City Council.
