Hundreds of Republicans are expected in Wichita this weekend as the party holds it annual state convention.

Party members will attend training sessions, meet with state and national representatives, and get ready for this fall’s midterm elections.

Several high-level Republicans are scheduled to be at the convention, including U.S. Senator Pat Roberts and Representatives Kevin Yoder, Roger Marshall, Ron Estes and Lynn Jenkins.

Jenkins announced last year she’s not seeking re-election, leaving several Republican hopefuls running for the 2nd District seat.

Aside from midterms, Kansans will also elect a new governor this fall. The big event at this weekend’s convention comes Saturday as five of the Republican candidates for governor take part in their first debate.

Gov. Jeff Colyer, Secretary of State Kris Kobach, Wichita businessmen Mark Hutton and Wink Hartman, and state Insurance Commissioner Ken Selzer will participate.
