Tash Aw’s new novel, The South, is a coming of age story of 16-year-old Jay, whose family moves for a summer to an inherited farm in southern Malaysia.

But more than just a “coming of age” novel, The South also explores generational trauma associated with migrants as well as the environmental changes throughout Malaysia during this time.

The South was published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux.
