Alexander Hacke and Danielle de Picciotto are the long-running duo known as hackedepicciotto. After spending 14 years living a nomadic existence, the pair settled into their own home on the outer fringes of Berlin, not far from where Hacke had grown up and where he was living when he joined the legendary Einstürzende Neubauten. de Picciotto is an American-born artist, musician and filmmaker who co-founded Berlin’s Love Parade in 1989.
From their new home, the pair created their latest LP, Lichtung, meaning a clearing in German, the language which populates the tracks of the new record. The couple, who had recently celebrated a quarter century of marriage before this conversation, spoke about finding their new home, the challenges it presented in their creativity, and how the success of their partnership, both creative and romantic, seems to rely on the contrasts in their personalities.
