Group Files To Recall Sedgwick Co. Commissioner Richard Ranzau

Updated Nov. 23 at 5:43 p.m.: Sedgwick County District Attorney Marc Bennett has ruled the petition does not meet the legal grounds and will not proceed.

A group in Wichita filed a petition today with the Sedgwick County Election Office to remove Commissioner Richard Ranzau from office.

Fourteen people make up the committee that’s pushing for a recall election of Commissioner Ranzau. One of the members is Melody Miller, Ranzau’s opponent in the 4th District election last year.

The group says that it is concerned that the commissioner’s ideology is affecting public health in the county.

"Our phones have been ringing off the hook with citizens of this county wanting to help with the effort, wanting to sign the petition and pledging support for the petition," says Sandrine Lisk, an immigration attorney and the president of the campaign committee.

Lisk says the county commissioners’ votes this year to reject federal funding for health programs are unacceptable. The petition will be sent to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s office to determine if the request meets the legal standards for a recall election.
