Brownback Praises State Officials For Storm Response
Gov. Sam Brownback is praising state emergency, law enforcement and highway officials for their "all hands on deck" response to the recent snow storms. The governor said at a briefing Wednesday that the storms were more challenging than usual because they blanketed nearly the entire state.
"Normally, in a snow event we can move stuff around the state because it doesn't hit the whole state, we'll move from northwest to southwest Kansas or northeast to southeast. (We) couldn't do that this time, we had to use everything, everywhere," Brownback said.
Six Kansans died in storm-related accidents or from health events triggered by the cold. The governor says the number of deaths and injuries could have been higher, if Kansans hadn't heeded warnings to stay off the roads.
