The Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport terminal will celebrate its second anniversary in June. Officials say that in the last two years, they’ve seen near-record traffic and more satisfied customers.

The new terminal was designed to be more accommodating to travelers, says spokeswoman Valerie Wise. She says there’s a shorter distance from the ticketing wing through security, and to the gates.

“It’s anywhere from a 40 to 60 percent shorter walk than it used to be," Wise says. "The TSA checkpoint area is much larger [and] brighter. It’s more efficient. We now have TSA precheck, so that’s a quicker way of getting through the security process than what we had before.”

There’s also more space in baggage claim, with three carousels instead of two, and a new parking garage.

The airport experienced its second-busiest year on record in 2016 with more than 1.6 million travelers. Full flights are expected this summer.
