International Women's Day is Friday, March 8, and KMUW is celebrating with five hours of music. Join Global Village, Strange Currency and Crossroads from 7 p.m. to midnight for the annual special feature.

Wu Man

Global Village celebrates the occassion with women singers, songwriters and instrumentalists from around the globe. We’ll hear music from the African all-star lineup of Les Amazones d’Afrique, Mexican-American singer Lila Downs, ‘tropical pop’ star Hollie Cook, Syrian musician and composer Maya Youssef, Chinese pipa player Wu Man, Paraguayan classical guitarist Berta Rojas, Mongolian singer Urna, Finnish folk group Enkel, and more.

PJ Harvey

Strange Currency marks International Women’s Day with selections from Joni Mitchell, Kate Bush, PJ Harvey, Sleater Kinney and more.

Mavis Staples

Crossroads joins in with a salute to blues women. We’ll hear music from March featured artist Marcia Ball, along with Blues Music Awards nominees Whitney Shay and Vanessa Collier, Maple and Juno Awards nominee Samantha Martin & Delta Sugar, the ‘Soul Queen of New Orleans’ Irma Thomas, Diunna Greenleaf (with a tribute to the ’Queen of the Blues’ Koko Taylor), Mavis Staples (from her new live album), and more. Then in hour two, it’s a concert special featuring Rory Block - a veteran guitarist and singer who is one of the contemporary masters of classic country and acoustic blues.
