On Stage

Date night, fun or adventure? Here's what's On Stage.

Classic date night is dinner and a show, but Prairie Pines adds a twist of fun with a murder mystery dinner theatre production of Wake Me When I'm Dead, which concerns the perhaps-not-accidental death of Sean O'Malley. As family members gather for an old-fashioned Irish wake, rumors fly regarding changes in Sean's will and what he may have known about the end of the rainbow. It's an evening of comedic mayhem accompanied by a four-course meal. Performances for general audiences are scattered through the months of March and April.

If you're looking for something still full of fun but slightly grittier, the Theatre League is presenting a musical stage version of Flashdance, the 1983 film about a steel mill welder who spends her nights as club dancer while dreaming of the chance to study at a prestigious ballet school. This show is for mature audiences. It runs from March 1st through the 3rd in the Concert Hall at Century II.

If the spring weather is making you restless or you're just in the mood for adventure, you might start planning a road trip: the 35th William Inge Theater Festival takes place in his hometown of Independence, Kansas. The festival includes three days of performance, labs, academic conference, high school competition, and more. The Inge Festival runs from April 20th to the 23rd, but tickets go on sale on March 1st.
