SPECIAL: International Women's Day

KMUW Music will be celebrating International Women's Day with five hours of music! Tune in to Global VillageStrange Currency, and Night Train on Wednesday, March 8 from 7:00 to midnight. 

To celebrate International Women's Day, Global Village will feature music from female artists from around the world – including Cape Verde’s barefoot diva  Cesaria Evora, the Queen of Salsa  Celia Cruz, Mali’s acclaimed Oumou Sangare, fado star Mariza, African vocal group Zap Mama, and rock icon Marianne Faithfull.

And then on Strange Currency, we'll continue the celebration with selections from Joni Mitchell, Mia Doi Todd, PJ Harvey, Valerie June, and many more.

Chris Heim produces and hosts Global Village, a nationally and internationally distributed world music show; the nightly jazz show Night Train, and Crossroads, KMUW’s twice-weekly blues and R&B show. Chris is also a critic and freelance writer whose work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Utne, Global Rhythm, Dirty Linen, and Option, among others.
Jedd Beaudoin is host/producer of the nationally syndicated program Strange Currency. He created and host the podcast Into Music, which examines musical mentorship and creative approaches to the composition, recording and performance of songs. As a music journalist, his work has appeared in PopMatters, Vox, No Depression and Keyboard Magazine.
