Wichita Officials To Host Social Media Town Hall On New Budget

The City of Wichita is hosting a social media town hall Thursday afternoon about the 2018-19 budget.

Mayor Jeff Longwell, city council members and city staff will answer questions on the city’s Facebook page and on Twitter account. Participants can follow along with #ICTBudget2017. Topics will include street maintenance, traffic safety, snow and ice removal, and youth reading programs.

The proposed 2018-19 budget is a $500 million spending plan. It is scheduled to be presented To city council on July 18, and they will take final action on August 8.

The town hall is part of the budget process that will also include workshops and other community involvement. This is the 6th year the city has conducted social media town halls. Last year’s event drew more than 2,000 comments and other reactions.

The town hall will take place from 2 to 3:30 p.m online. A second event is scheduled for June 20.
