Mobile App Coming For FAFSA

fafsa.ed.gov

It’s easy to order food, get a ride or transfer money using a mobile phone, so now the U.S. Department of Education wants to make filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, just as easy.

The Education Department is creating a mobile app version of FAFSA that will launch next spring. The current federal student aid form is 10 pages, including instructions.

The Senate committee overseeing education held a hearing on simplifying the FAFSA process last week.

The FAFSA for the 2018-19 school year became available in October. The deadline to submit the application in Kansas for priority consideration is April 1. The federal deadline is June 30.

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos also wants to enhance cybersecurity to protect personal data.

“Overall, the next-generation system will be the most significant change to the student aid process ever,” DeVos said at a conference of student aid professionals in Orlando, Florida, last week.
