The Wichita Police Department is collecting goods and bottled water this week to help Texas officers in the heart of the flooded areas.

It’s an effort they’re calling “Back the Blue in Texas.”

Deputy Chief Jose Salcido says they’re coordinating with the Houston Police Department.

"The list that we got from the officers in Texas is that they needed diapers, wipes, feminine products, bedding, mattresses, water, clothing, socks, undergarments for infants, children and teenagers and cleaning supplies for the clean-up," Salcido says.

Donations will be accepted from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. through Friday at the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge on 477 N. Seneca in Wichita.

A local transportation company has donated a truck to carry the donations down to Texas on Saturday.
