The Greater Wichita Ministerial League will host its annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration at noon today at the Wichita State Metroplex.
The event is an effort to bring residents together to commemorate the life and legacy of the civil rights leader. Bishop Wade Moore, president of the League, says the organization will present community recognition awards including the Martin Luther King Dream and Visions award.
“It’s given to an individual that represents visions and dreams of Dr. King and how they participate at making our community a better place," Moore says. "We looked at everybody. We’ve got so many great people in the community."
Bonita Gooch, editor of the Community Voice, will receive the award this year.
"what she is doing, her participation is making the community a better place," Moore says.
The theme for this year’s commemoration is “Beyond Tolerance”. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Lance Watson, Senior Pastor at St. Paul Baptist Church in Richmond, Virginia.
