At Play: Sharks, Jets, And A Dip In The Pond

Music Theatre of Wichita presents the Jerome Robbins classic West Side Story June 25-29. First produced on Broadway in 1957 the musical is a contemporary version of Romeo and Juliet and is one of lyricist Stephen Sondheim’s best-loved works. Featuring a score from Leonard Bernstein, West Side Story boasts several staples of American music including “Maria,” “America” and “I Feel Pretty,” among others. This is one of the most important pieces of American music theatre and is familiar to some from its 1961 film adaptation starring Natalie Wood and Rita Moreno.

There's still time to catch Shrek: The Musical at the Crown Uptown. The adaptation of the classic animated film closes June 28. And now through July 19 it's Tom Frye's Jaws: The Musical or: Just Bite Me at Mosley Street Melodrama. Each performance is followed by the Hits of Summer Musical Comedy Review.

Wichita Community Theatre has also recently announced its proposed 2014-2015 season which will include productions of On Golden Pond, Bell, Book and Candle and others.
