At Play: Love, Evolution, And Science For Kids

There’s still time to catch Wichita Community Theatre’s production of Inherit The Wind, written by Jerome Lawrence & Robert E. Lee. The town of Hillsboro and its citizen Bertram Cates are on trial for teaching evolution in the public schools. The world has its eye on this small town as the trial unfolds. This production features Wichita stage veterans Don Wineke and David Bailey among others. The production closes on February 9.

Wichita Center for the Arts presents Clybourne Park February 14-16. Written in response to Lorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin in the Sun, this Pulitzer and Tony Award-winning play opens in1959 as a community struggles to accept a black family moving into an all-white neighborhood. As the plot progresses to 2009, the same (but now predominately black) neighborhood addresses modern racial issues and gentrification as a white couple attempts to buy the same home.

The Forum Theatre presents I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change February 13-March 9. The show is the longest-running Off Broadway musical in history. Written by Joe DiPietrio with music by Jimmy Roberts, the show involves a series of vignettes that follow the theme of love and relationships.

And for the whole family there’s Sid The Science Kid at the Orpheum on February 21. Watch Sid, Gabriela, Gerald and May from the hit half-hour PBS series as they take an incredible journey through the five senses. Teacher Susie leads the kids and the audience through a musical adventure.
