Nearly 30 polling sites in Wichita will feature local DJs spinning tunes on Election Day.

Anton Moore started DJ's at the Polls in 2009 with the goal of encouraging more people to vote.

The Pennsylvania-based nonprofit targets communities with a history of being underrepresented, including people of color, first-time voters, and young voters. The group chooses states with high-profile races and hires local DJs to perform at select polling sites.

“A lot of communities with people of color, they are underrepresented, so we look at that and say, 'Look, a big race is there, let's just try to get people out to vote," Moore said.

"Whether you [are] voting Democrat, Republican, or Independent, we want people to exercise their voice and exercise their right to vote.”

In Sedgwick County on Tuesday, 28 polling sites will feature local DJs at various times. Moore says the aim is to create a positive and celebratory environment for voters.
