How Will Passenger Rail Service In Wichita Affect You? City Officials Want To Know

Officials want to hear from you about the effect that passenger rail service will have in Wichita.

The Wichita Public Library is hosting a Brown Bag Lunch discussion on the issue at its central location on August 27 at noon, in coordination with the League of Women Voters - Wichita Metro.

Vice Mayor Pete Meitzner will speak. Meitzner is leading Wichita's efforts to enhance transportation.

The state of Kansas and Wichita are trying to secure $13 million in federal grants to finish the planning phase of their rail project.

The plan would extend Amtrak's Heartland Flyerpassenger service from Oklahoma City up north to Wichita. Then, it would expand the line from Wichita to Newton and connect with Amtrak's Southwest Chief line, which runs from Los Angeles to Chicago.
