Wichita City Council To Hear Presentation On Bicycle Master Plan

Ty Nigh

The Wichita City Council will hear recommendations Tuesday on a 10-year, $12.5 million plan to improve and connect city bike paths.

Bike shop owner Lee Engler says new riders like safe paths and seasoned riders prefer street improvements, and the steering committee is proposing both.

"I think it's a good balance," says Engler. "But it's also a good way of spending money. It could take less money, for instance, to paint lanes inside the streets. It takes a lot more money putting in multi-use paths."

Twenty percent of the funding will come from city capital improvement money, the remainder from federal grant money.

The City Council meeting begins Tuesday at 9 am.
