In October 1971, Pink Floyd traveled to Pompeii, Italy to make a concert film, although a remarkably unusual one—it featured the quartet playing live to an audience of no one inside the city’s amphitheater. With some other footage filmed in Paris two months later, director Adrian Maben emerged with one of the great rock concert films, Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii. The audio from the film was never released as a standalone recording in an official capacity until this year. The result is Pink Floyd At Pompeii: MCMLXXII with a remix from Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree). We’ll hear selections from that recording on this episode as well as music from the 2020 release by former Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason and his band Nick Mason’s Saucerful of Secrets, Live at the Roundhouse.

Friday, May 30
We’ll hear selections from soundtrack to the film Sinners, including performances from Cedric Burnside and Rhiannon Giddens (Carolina Chocolate Drops) as well as music from Samantha Fish’s latest, Paper Doll.

Saturday, May 31
Released in 2005, Insects With Angel Wings was the fourth album from Atlanta, Georgia’s Dropsonic. We’ll hear material from that release on this episode as well as selections from Pink Floyd At Pompeii: MCMLXXII.
