Renowned Geologist, Former WSU Instructor Robbie Gries To Speak In Wichita

Internationally known geologist and former Wichita State University instructor Robbie Gries returns to WSU on Friday to speak at an event celebrating women’s contributions to the earth sciences.

Robbie Gries is known for combining the business side of oil and gas with her passion for the science of geology.

Gries is the founder and president of Priority Oil & Gas LLC, a Denver-based natural gas production company with properties in Kansas and Wyoming.

She is the president of the Geological Society of America, and was the first female president of the 35,000-member American Association of Petroleum Geologists. She is also the co-founder of the website GeoScience World.

Gries has achieved the highest honors a person can receive in her field.

Friday's program will open with a new documentary, "Rock Stars: Pioneering Women in Petroleum Geology," based on Gries's recent publication, Pioneering Women in Petroleum Geology 1917-2017.

The film will be followed by conversation with Gries.

The event will be held on in WSU's Geology Building in room 101 from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
