West Coast Blues And Big Bill Broonzy’s Birthday

Friday, June 26 and Sunday, June 28

Crossroads celebrates the June 26th birthday of one of the key figures of pre-electric Chicago Blues, Big Bill Broonzy. We’ll hear some of his classic tracks and a tribute from Mark Hummel’s latest album in hour one, and a special, including a conversation with Broonzy biographer Bob Riesman, in hour two of the show.

Crossroads also wraps up the June West Coast Blues feature with jump blues hitmaker Floyd Dixon, and we move up the coast for music from Portland’s Curtis Salgado and Alan Hagar, and Vancouver’s Kenny “Blues Boss” Wayne and Blue Moon Marquee.

Plus the latest from Blind Lemon Pledge, Hudspeth & Taylor, Bruce Katz, and Watermelon Slim.

Chris Heim produces and hosts Global Village, a nationally and internationally distributed world music show; the nightly jazz show Night Train, and Crossroads, KMUW’s twice-weekly blues and R&B show. Chris is also a critic and freelance writer whose work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Utne, Global Rhythm, Dirty Linen, and Option, among others.
