No One Sings Like Them Anymore

Monday, December 28

We’ll remember musician Leslie West, who passed away on December 23 at the age of 75. West was a founding member of the band Mountain, perhaps best known for the song “Mississippi Queen.” He also co-wrote the 1969 song “Long Red,” which features one of the most sampled drum breaks in the history of hip-hop, appearing in songs by Eric B. & Rakim, Public Enemy, and in Jay-Z’s “99 Problems.” He also appeared in the 1986 film The Money Pit as leader of the fictional rock band Cheap Girls. We’ll hear music from West’s work as a solo artist in addition to performances with Mountain and West, Bruce, Laing, which he formed with former Cream bassist and vocalist Jack Bruce as well as former Mountain drummer Corky Laing, who is now the only surviving member of the original band.

No One Sings Like You Anymore, Vol.1 is a posthumous covers collection from late Soundgarden vocalist Chris Cornell. In addition to songs from Prince and Harry Nilsson, Cornell also covers Janis Joplin, Terry Reid and ELO. We’ll hear music from that release as well as songs from Jimi Hendrix’s Live In Maui.
