Help Shape KMUW's Local Elections Reporting

While Aug. 4 might sound far-off, Kansas’ primary election is just a month away. So, ready or not, KMUW is gearing up for a seriously busy election season.

The biggest race this year is, of course, for U.S. president. But on both your primary and general election ballots, there will be dozens of “down-ballot” races whose outcomes will affect our communities just as much, if not more than, what happens at the White House.

This year, all state Senate and House seats are up for election, as are two seats on the Sedgwick County Commission, and the 4th Congressional District seat.

So, as KMUW starts to plan its elections coverage, we want to hear from you, the voter, about what you want that coverage to look like — what issues, concerns, and questions you want explored as you prepare to vote. Is it property taxes? Criminal justice reform? Health care policy amid the COVID-19 pandemic?

To set us in the right direction, want to hear your answers to this one question:

“What do you want the candidates to be talking about as they compete for your vote?”

Basically, if you could sit across from a candidate, what would you ask him or her that would help you decide your vote?

Fill out this form with your answer, or email your response to news@kmuw.org. You can also send it in as a voice memo using the Talk To Us feature on the KMUW app.

After we collect answers, our newsroom will narrow down your responses before we begin our reporting based on what you’ve told us.

Your input is critical. Thank you for supporting KMUW’s elections coverage, and for making voters’ voices heard this year.
