Yes, the winter holidays are going to be different this year, but rather than sulk, let’s look for new ways to come together and honor the holiday season.
I’ve never been to Dyck Arboretum of the Plains in Hesston, but that’s about to change. The Winter Luminary Walk - highlighting the “quiet beauty of Kansas in winter” - is open from 5:30 - 8:00 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, November 27 through December 6. Tickets must be purchased in advance at dyckarboretum.org.
This Friday evening at 7:00 p.m., Newman University premieres Come Alive!, an upbeat musical following a group of university choral students. Tickets are available on EventBrite, and ticket holders will be able to watch the video of the performance through January 4.
Friends University kicks off their 12 Days of Christmas video series at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 1. A performance by the Friends jazz, orchestra, and band groups will be released on the Friends University Jazz Facebook page each day through December 12.
Friends University is also taking their traditional Christmas Candlelight performance to Facebook this year. The Flute Choir gets the show underway at 7:30 p.m. on December 4. The virtual program also includes performances by the Singing Quakers, the Concert Choir, Chamber Choir, Jazz Vocal Ensemble, and a compilation of Friends University faculty, students and staff for the singing of “Silent Night.” Look for it on the Friends University Fine Arts Facebook page.
