Shaking Up The Shadows And Some Heavy Banding

Saturday, June 1

Father of the Bride is the first album in six years from Vampire Weekend. We’ll hear music from it as well as selections from The National’s latest, I Am Easy to Find, featuring appearances from former David Bowie collaborator, Gail Ann Dorsey, as well as Sharon Van Etten.

Monday, June 3

We Get By is the latest album from legendary R&B singer Mavis Staples and is produced by guitarist and songwriter Ben Harper. Listen for music from this recording plus selections from Harper’s 1994 debut album Welcome to the Cruel World.

We’ll remember psychedelic rock legend Roky Erickson, known for his pioneering work with the 13th Floor Elevators. Erickson, who struggled with mental illness most of his life, was the subject of the acclaimed 2005 documentary, You’re Gonna Miss Me. He died Friday, May 31.

Tuesday, June 4

We celebrate the birthday of Reeves Gabrels, guitarist for The Cure, with selections from his extensive body of work with David Bowie (including Tin Machine) as well as music from his solo career.

Wednesday, June 5

Listen for selections from Shake Up The Shadows the new EP from Gainesville, Florida’s Hot Water Music as well as Slingshot Dakota’s Heavy Banding.

Thursday, June 6

We celebrate the birthday of bassist/Chapman Stick player Tony Levin with selections from his work with King Crimson, Peter Gabriel, John Lennon and Yoko Ono as well as with the band Stick Men.

Friday, June 7

It’s New Month, New Music feature with selections from pronoun, Sebadoh, Jimmie Vaughan, Drivin’ N Cryin’ as well as Unwed Sailor.

Saturday, June 8

Listen for selections from Here Comes the Cowboy, the latest from Mac DeMarco as well as Courtney Barnett’s 2018 effort, Tell Me How You Really Feel.

We’ll also remember Dr. John, who died on Thursday at the age of 77.
