SPECIAL: First Day Of Winter

 

KMUW Music marks the first day of winter with five hours of music! Tune in to Global Village, Strange Currency and Night Train on Thursday, December 21, from 7:00 p.m. to midnight to celebrate the new season.

 

Starting at 7:00 p.m., Global Village marks the first day of winter with a show devoted to songs of the season. Artists featured include Leonard Cohen, Gil Scott-Heron, Boys of the Lough, Bebel Gilberto, ErsatzMusika, Loreena McKennitt, Esquivel and more.

From 8:00 to 10:00 p.m., Strange Currency celebrates the Winter Solstice with selections from Hall & Oates, Over The Rhine and Zakk Wylde. 

Night Train closes out the special feature with a wide array of original and favorite songs of the season. Highlights include music from Cyrille Aimee, Sting, Al DiMeola, Frank Kimbrough and Dave Stryker in hour one; and Cyrus Chestnut, Pee Wee Ellis (of the James Brown Horns), the Yellowjackets, the Ted Rosenthal Trio, and Kurt Elling in hour two of the show.

  • Night Train | 10:00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m.

Chris Heim produces and hosts Global Village, a nationally and internationally distributed world music show; the nightly jazz show Night Train, and Crossroads, KMUW’s twice-weekly blues and R&B show. Chris is also a critic and freelance writer whose work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Utne, Global Rhythm, Dirty Linen, and Option, among others.
Jedd Beaudoin is host/producer of the nationally syndicated program Strange Currency. He has also served as an arts reporter, a producer of A Musical Life and a founding member of the KMUW Movie Club. As a music journalist, his work has appeared in Pop Matters, Vox, No Depression and Keyboard Magazine.
