New Holiday Jazz Albums, Holiday Concerts & A Bevy Of Birthdays
After some fairly quiet recent years, this year sees a surprising number of new jazz holiday titles. We’ll feature them throughout this week on the Night Train.
Night Train kicks off a week featuring new jazz holiday titles with music from the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, the Count Basie Orchestra, Kim Pensyl, and Ann Hampton Callaway. Plus birthday salutes to trumpeter Clark Terry, baritone saxophonist Cecil Payne, and trombonist Dan Barrett, and new music from Kansas City contemporary soul-jazz trio OJT, trombonist Michael Dease, and keyboardist Clare Fischer in a set of previously unreleased material.
Night Train continues this week’s feature of new jazz holiday releases – this time with music from Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band, pianist David Benoit, harpist Corky Hale, and even some holiday tuba with Daniel Perantoni. Plus birthday salutes to Mingus drummer Dannie Richmond, trombonist Curtis Fuller, pianist Barry Harris and Latin jazz pianist Eddie Palmieri – and new music from keyboardist Ben Paterson, the Royal Bopsters Project, latin jazz bassist Ray Martinez, and singer Dee Dee Bridgewater.
Night Train continues to highlight new jazz holiday releases tonight – this time from the Pittsburgh Jazz Orchestra, singer Thisbe Vos, saxophonist Doug Webb, and the Fred Hughes Trio. Plus birthday salutes to Beethoven, songwriter Andy Razaf, guitarist John Abercrombie, sax and flute fusion player Joe Farrell, and soul-jazz organist Johnny ‘Hammond’ Smith – and new music from Big Picture Holiday and Oran Etkin.
It’s a piano showcase tonight on the Night Train with music from pianists Bruce Barth, Edward Simon, George Cables, Mike Longo, Brad Mehldau, Cedar Walton and Jessica Williams. Plus classics from Eddie Harris, and Jimmy Smith with Wes Montgomery.
