Global Village celebrates International Coffee Day with music about coffee and from the coffee lands – including selections from the Ink Spots, Robert Plant, Bob Marley, Herbie Mann, and the Music from the Coffee Lands, and Qat, Coffee & Qambus compilations. Plus the world music side of jazz fusion violinist Jean Luc Ponty for his birthday.

Global Village highlights Latin sounds from percussionist Steve Kroon, trumpeter Arturo Sandoval , contemporary cumbia rock group Chico Trujillo, and Brian Andres & the Afro-Cuban Jazz Cartel. Plus the acclaimed African group, Staff Benda Bilili, folk guitar greats John Renbourn and Stefan Grossman, and Brazil meets bluegrass group Nation Beat.

Global Village celebrates the birthday of one of Senegal’s greatest stars and one of the giants of world music – Youssou N’Dour. The program highlights music from his early recordings to his Grammy-winning Egypt album to a soon-to-be released album recorded during his breakthrough 1987 tour with Peter Gabriel – along with guest appearances with Peter Gabriel, Orchestra Baobab, Harry Belafonte, Carlou D, and more.
