The Global Village Jazz Appreciation Month celebration continues this time with music from three birthday artists who bring together world and jazz influences in their work – ‘El Rey’ Tito Puente, one of the legends of Latin jazz, and two Middle Eastern artists – bassist Avishai Cohen and guitarist Issi Rozen. Plus music from two new reissues- one featuring music of ska pioneer Don Drummond, and the other with highlife great E.T. Mensah.

Global Village highlights some global guitars including those of English folk great John Renbourn, Indian electric guitarist Prasanna, Mali’s Boubacar Traore, and the meeting of flamenco and classical guitar in a new project from Pedro Soler & Philippe Mouratoglou. Plus a blast from the past from Shadowfax and the new Rough Guide to Psychedelic India.

SPECIAL: Global Village celebrates Earth Day with songs from Tom Lehrer, Jimmy Cliff, Marvin Gaye, Chicago Afrobeat Project and more. Plus birthday salutes to Latin boogaloo star Joe Cuba and Hawaiian guitar great Gabby Pahinui, and new music from Selasee & the Fafa Family, and the Rough Guide to Psychedelic Salsa.
Thursday, April 23
It’s a dance party this time in the Global Village with music from Nigeria’s William Onyeabor, soca star Arrow, Latin funk pioneers, Mandrill, and for the April Jazz Appreciation Month/World Jazz feature - Canada’s worldbeat SoulJazz Orchestra, and two Latin jazz legends – Eddie Palmieri and Mongo Santamaria.

SPECIAL: Global Village celebrates Arbor Day with some musical salutes to trees from Herbie Hancock, Van Morrison, the Ink Spots and more. Plus more world jazz for the April Jazz Appreciation Month feature – including music from birthday artists Colin Walcott of the world chamber jazz group Oregon and saxophonist Joe Henderson.
