Veterans Day isn’t until Wednesday, but about 2,000 local JROTC and Leadership Corps Cadets joined together Monday to honor local veterans.
Nineteen middle and high schools representing three branches of the military were involved in the event at Century II. World War II, Vietnam and other veterans were in the audience as military leaders, politicians and students recognized their service through music and drills.

Michaela Lee is deputy corps commander and has been in Leadership Corps and Junior ROTC for five years. The Northwest High School senior says it means the world to younger cadets to participate in the ceremony.
“Many of these veterans didn't get a welcome home back," she says. "And for them to be able to come out and see us and see what we're doing, I think that makes them feel like what they did wasn’t for loss."
In the crowd only a handful of WWII vets were there, and they were specifically recognized.
