KMUW Movie Club: Namely, American

The 4th of July is right around the corner, and in honor of the patriotic holiday, the KMUW Movie Club came together to talk about their favorite films with "America" in the title.

Next, we talk about another American staple: the summer blockbuster.

Hugo's Pick: Wet Hot American Summer (2001)

When I first saw Wet Hot American Summer in the early 2000s, I didn't know what I was getting in to. It was this wacky spoof of 1980's camp movies that beared so much reverence for the material it was skewering. In retrospect, it seemed like a perfect storm that brought together a myriad of the talented comedians at the beginning of their burgeoning careers. It really does deserve a place in the annals of comedy history.

Jedd's Pick: An American Werewolf in London (1981)

American Werewolf in London remains a must-see movie because of both its humor and horror. I can't decide which I love more.

Fletcher's Pick: The American Friend (1977)

Ripley fans might need to let go of the fact that Dennis Hopper seems imported from another movie (or another galaxy?), but Wim Wenders creates a wonderfully gritty 1970's neo-noir atmosphere here, and Bruno Ganz's sad eyes do so much heavy lifting.

What are some of your favorite "American" films? Let us know on Facebook and Twitter.
