Sedgwick County is in the bottom half of a new county health ranking from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute.
When it comes to health outcomes—which weigh quality of life and length of life—Sedgwick County ranks 60th out of 102 Kansas counties overall (three did not have data available). That's a slight improvement from last year, when it was 69th.
For health factors, though, like physical environment and access to health care, the county ranks even lower: 79th in the state. The number of sexually transmitted infections is up, and the county saw a jump in the percentage of children under the age of 18 who live in poverty.
The report shows Sedgwick County is faring worse than most of its neighbors—Harvey County ranked 17th healthiest in the state.
