Wichita Schools Notify Parents Of Vaccine Mandate

School nurses in Wichita have been notifying parents that their kids can't go to school if they're not up to date on their required immunizations.

Wichita Public Schools plan to begin excluding students November 4th, unless their immunizations are current.

State law requires all students in public schools to be immunized, unless they have a current statement from a doctor saying the child’s life or health would be jeopardized by the shots. The only other exception to the law is for families who sign a written statement saying the child’s religious teachings are opposed to vaccination.

Starting November 4th, Wichita schools plan to pull children out of class and send them home if they’re not in compliance with the policy. A spokeswoman says this kind of deadline is given every year.
