Sedgwick County lawmakers will hold a public forum Wednesday night in downtown Wichita. It’s an opportunity for residents to voice concerns and request action from the South Central Legislative Delegation.
State Senator Oletha Faust-Goudeau, who represents District 29 in Wichita is chair of the delegation. She says the forum will include discussion on the state budget, jobs, education, guns, taxes and a focus on healthcare.
“One of the big issues that I know we will hear about is expanding Medicaid in the state of Kansas,” Faust-Goudeau says. “Right now there is an online petition where already 3,000 have signed up to ask Gov. Sam Brownback and the Kansas legislature to please expand Medicaid.”
Speakers should arrive early to fill out requests to address lawmakers and there will be a 3-minute time limit.
Wednesday’s forum will be held at the Sedgwick County Court House in the first floor jury room—525 N. Main, in downtown Wichita at 7pm.
Another public forum will be Thursday afternoon. While the public will be able to observe, comments will be limited to area business and education leaders outlining their requests to state lawmakers.
Thursday’s forum will be at the National Center for Aviation Training or NCAT, 4004 N. Webb Road in Wichita from 1-4pm. The next legislative session gets underway in Topeka on Monday, January 13.
