Kansas Senate President Susan Wagle was recognized at the Statehouse Thursday for her support of cancer research. Wagle is a two-time cancer survivor.
University of Kansas Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little praised Wagle for her hard work in the Legislature.
"Having someone in her position who is affected in that way, and yet who keeps being so active-- coming back, having a significant role in the Legislature-- I think is an inspiration," Gray-Little said.
Wagle was given the 2013 University of Kansas Cancer Center Leadership Award. Gray-Little says support from Wagle and other lawmakers helped make it possible for the KU Cancer Center to be awarded a National Cancer Institute designation last year.
