Kansas State Parks Offer Free Entrance On Black Friday

Kansas Division of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism

The Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism wants more people to get outdoors on Black Friday.

The Kansas State Parks system won’t be charging entrance fees at any of its parks on Friday. (See a list and map here.)

Division director Linda Lanterman says that although she enjoys Black Friday shopping too, she hopes people will also take the opportunity to do something a little more active than spending time waiting in line at the mall.

“It’s just a good habit to get into," she says. "To be outside, it’s healthy for your mind and your soul and your body, and it’s just something different.”

Lanterman says the free day will have a minimal impact on revenue and hopes that ultimately, the event will encourage more people to take advantage of the hiking, camping, and other activities available at the state’s 26 parks.
