Wichita State University President John Bardo is in a hospital being treated for a flare-up of a chronic lung condition.
Bardo, 70, has been in the hospital for several days. He will not attend graduation and isn't expected to return to campus until the new year. He is continuing to work with his executive team while he recovers.
"I’m in good spirits," Bardo said in an email sent to the university dean and others. "I’m looking forward to being back on campus and seeing you in the new year."
Bardo's health has been a concern for several months. In September, he started using a mobility scooter after he fractured three vertebrae. Bardo has been the president of WSU since 2012.
