The Wichita Board of Education will be appointing a new member to District 4, which covers a large portion of southwest Wichita.
Former board member Jeff Davis vacated his position after moving out of the Wichita school district, leaving the remainder of his term open until 2020.
The deadline to apply for the position is Thursday, Sept. 28, at noon, followed by interviews the next day. District spokeswoman Susan Arensman says applicants must have a flexible schedule outside of the Monday night meetings.
"We'll welcome anybody who's willing to serve but unlike our city and county counterparts, serving on the board is an unpaid position," Arensman says.
The school board will select a new member at their meeting on Oct. 2.
