Friends University To Offer Adults Flexibility With Evening Elementary Education Courses

Starting June 1st, adults interested in taking elementary education classes at Friends University in Wichita will have a new option to attend classes at night. KMUW’s Carla Eckels has more…

The Elementary Education program at Friends University prepares adult students to teach grades K-6.

David Hofmeister Dean of the Graduate School and Interim Dean of the College of Adult and Professional Studies says adult students will be well prepared by the faculty.

“We offer flexibility with working with adults," Hofmeister says. "We are well rehearsed in making sure that we know how adults learn and that we are effective in helping them learn."

The move by Friends University helps them compete with other private institutions such as Newman University and Southwestern College.

Classes start June 1st with the next opportunity in August.

Carla Eckels is Director of Organizational Culture at KMUW. She produces and hosts the R&B and gospel show Soulsations and brings stories of race and culture to The Range with the monthly segment In the Mix. Carla was inducted into The Kansas African American Museum's Trailblazers Hall of Fame in 2020 for her work in broadcast/journalism.
