WSU Promotes Science Careers For Girls

Wichita State University is hosting a career conference emphasizing science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) for young women.

The Expanding Your Horizons conference for middle school girls is in its first year.

The students can participate in workshops like "Polymers, Polymers Everywhere!," "Clean Air is Always in Fashion," and "The Slime is ALIVE!" The girls will also meet role models in science disciplines.

Parents can also attend sessions on college readiness, test prep, school financing, and application essays.

Wichita State plan to hold the event annually.

The conference begins at 8 am on Saturday, November 2, in the CAC theater.

When she's not out making lattes in her mobile coffee bus Sunflower Espresso, Kate Hutchens is a fill-in host for KMUW. She has worked in broadcast journalism at KFDI, Oregon Public Broadcasting, and at KMUW as Morning Edition host, which she did until March 2017.
