Wichita East Senior Wins WSU's $44,000 Barton Scholarship

Wichita State University

Kiah Danielle Duggins, an International Baccalaureate senior at Wichita High School East, is the winner of Wichita State University's 2013-2014 Clay Barton Scholarship in Business. Duggins will receive $11,000 a year for four years to attend WSU.

The $44,000 Barton Scholarship is the biggest business scholarship in the state.

Duggins plans to major in international business and Spanish, and minor in political science at WSU.

She was raised in Wichita and has danced at the Wichita School of Performing Arts since she was 2, and is a member of the dance team at East High. She also is a member of East's Spanish club, Spanish Honor Society, National Honor Society and Global Awareness and Peace Promoters. Duggins is the school's student body vice president.

Describing herself as a pragmatic idealist, Duggins said she is passionate about advocacy for disadvantaged and mistreated people. She's interested in global economic development and said she'd love to work for a nonprofit that helps foster economic growth in developing countries, or be a foreign service officer for the U.S. Agency for International Development or the State Department.
