Department of Labor Expects Continued Job Growth in KS

The unemployment rate in Kansas continues to beat the national average.

In Kansas, the unemployment rate stands at 5.4 percent. That's well below the U.S. average of 7.8 percent.

Tyler Tenbrink is with the Kansas Department of Labor. He says the state is expecting continued improvement in 2013.

"Currently we are at 5.4 percent, we project that to continue to come down - not quite at that rapid pace, but a more moderated pace," he says.

Tenbrink says employment growth in Kansas is around 700 jobs per month, but officials would like to see long-term job growth of around 1,400 jobs per month.
